St. John Neumann Odyssey of the Mind Teams Return Victorious

Five Odyssey of the Mind teams from St. John Neumann Regional Academy represented our school and the state of Pennsylvania in the 28th annual Odyssey of the Mind World Finals last week at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. In an unprecedented victory, ALL FIVE TEAMS placed in the top five in the World! No other school or school district in the United States or in the world captured more top five victories than St. John Neumann!!

The Neumann OM teams competed at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals with 805 other teams from around the world. We traveled with over 90 team members, coaches, family members and friends and had one of the largest contingencies of fans representing one school in the world.

Upon our return to Williamsport on Sunday, the two Neumann OM buses were greeted with a parade led by local fire and police vehicles. All were given American flags by Mr. Tony DiSalvo, which we waved from our buses on the parade route. Mayor Mary Wolf, Sr. Judith Blair and Fr. Michael McCormick offered their congratulations and prayers of Thanksgiving when we arrived at the high school campus. A multitude of family and friends greeted us there and offered their congratulations.

The St. John Neumann Odyssey of the Mind Champions and their placement at World Finals are as follows:

SECOND PLACE: “The Large & Small of It”, Division I. Team members: Devon Mendler, Ben Caviston, Benjamin Facey, Amy Southard, Madison Fink, Geoffrey Kist and Domenic Galanti. Coaches: Beth Caviston, Mindy Facey and Lisa Mendler.

THIRD PLACE: “Tag ‘Em”, Division I. Team members: Alexa Martin, Katie Bahr, Meghan Trenholm, Noah Beiter, Nathan McFadden and John Wright. Coaches: Keith Bauer and Kathy Bahr.

THIRD PLACE: “Tag ‘Em”, Division III. Team members: Phil Trometter, Adam Bahr, Doug Hasko, JoAnne Murphy, Elliot Steele, Kurt Hiller and John Mattiace. Coaches: Keith Bauer, Jeff Trometter and Kathy Bahr.

FOURTH PLACE: “Around the World in 8 Minutes”, Division I. Team members: Emily Sholder, Mark Odorizzi, Alyssa Gregory, Allyson Kennedy, James Hamm, and Kurt Stroble. Coaches: Alison Gregory and Diane Sholder.

FIFTH PLACE: “I’m Only Thinking of You”, Division II. Team members: Hannah Harris, Hannah Facey, Ian Labate, Andrew Glunk, Theresa Bering, Audrey Pasnello and Alec Galanti. Coach: Mindy Facey.

On behalf of the entire St. John Neumann family, the administration, the pastors & priests, the faculty, the students and the parents, we extend our very sincere congratulations to all involved in the St. John Neumann Odyssey of the Mind program. You have made us very, very proud! Enjoy your victory!
